General Terms and Conditions of Scooter Rental Agreement

Dodo Scooter Rental

1. Authorized Use

  • The scooter must be driven only by the renter or an authorized driver as stated in the agreement.

  • The scooter must not be driven on the seashore, beach, or in water under any circumstances.

2. Responsibility & Care of the Scooter

  • The renter is fully responsible for the security and condition of the scooter during the rental period.

  • Any damage caused by careless driving, negligence, or intentional misuse will be charged to the renter.

  • The company reserves the right to terminate the rental agreement at any time if the scooter is not kept in good condition.

3. Contract Cancellation

  • If the renter breaks or cancels the contract, 50% of the agreed total rental cost must be paid.

  • Dodo Scooter Rental may cancel the contract without refund if misuse or reckless driving is proven.

4. Fuel, Permits & Time

  • Fuel (petrol) and driving permits are not included in the rental price.

  • In case of late return, an extra charge of USD 5 per hour will apply.

  • Free mileage is included.

5. Mechanical Issues

  • Any mechanical failure not caused by misuse is the responsibility of Dodo Scooter Rental.

Scooter Delivery Locations

  • Free pickup & drop-off at:

    • Zanzibar Airport

    • Ferry Port

    • Stone Town areas

  • Delivery to beach resorts and hotels outside Stone Town costs USD 20 extra.

Insurance Policy

  • All scooters are covered by Comprehensive Insurance.

  • The renter is responsible for the first USD 350 excess in case of an accident.

Comprehensive Insurance Covers:

  • Theft

  • Vandalism

  • Fire

  • Natural disasters (e.g., storms, floods)

  • Falling objects

  • Damage caused by animals

  • Civil disturbances (e.g., riots)

Not Covered by Insurance:

  • Collision damage to the scooter

  • Damage to third-party vehicles

  • Medical expenses for the driver or passengers

Insurance Exclusions (IMPORTANT):

Insurance does NOT cover:

  • Tyres, rims, mirrors, glass, or undercarriage damage

  • Damage caused by the violation of traffic laws

  • Damage or total loss while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or illegal substances

Security Obligations

  • The scooter must be locked at all times when unattended.

  • The renter is responsible for ensuring the scooter is parked under a watchman at night.

  • Most hotels and parking areas provide security, but responsibility remains with the renter.

Driver’s License Requirements

  • The authorized driver must:

    • Be between 18 and 70 years old

    • Hold a valid driving license for at least 2 years

    • Have no serious endorsements in the last 2 years

  • International Driving Permit is required, or

  • National license can be endorsed locally for USD 15

  • A valid identification document (passport or national ID) is required in addition to the driving license.

By renting a scooter from Dodo Scooter Rental, the renter agrees to all terms and conditions stated above.
